| After a few pages, I was sucked into this story. It's classic McKinley and reminded me a lot of The Blue Sword not only in tone and format, but the main character is named Mirasol, which called Harimad-sol of Blue Sword to mind.
As a classic McKinley story, however, it also has a few frustrating bits. The world McKinley has created is fascinating (like Blue Sword) and I want more of it. There is a lot of time spent on world building, frankly, and it can get a bit heavy. Read More: |

| Ok, This is a novel "YOU MUST READ" This is one of those stories that make you think about your life and to realize if your life is as miserable as you think it is. Is to see how this girl get trought a lot of things and makes is out...well you should read it!!! It's an amazing book, you will get dazzled by it!!! |

| I read this book a few years ago in High School English. This was one of the first books I've ever read, and I was really touched by the difficulties that some girls have to face. Many of the women in my life have been molested or raped, and it really helped to be able to see what they might be feeling. It was certainly a good book for a young man in high school to read, I'm sure it was good for the whole class. |

| At first my son was really angry that he got this book. He threw it on the floor and walked away! When I finally got him to look at it with me I let him treat it as a workbook. After all, it has spaces for writing and drawing. I also gave him a highlighter and told him to mark things that seemed important. Doing this gave him a sense of ownership and helped him connect with the ideas. It also helps that the material is presented in a way that he could relate to, with lots of questions and fun language.
