| The book came in with extra features. The previous owner was a library. The book had different types of stains on it and in it. The previous readers loved to eat, drink, and read a lot. If I had a chemistry lab for my child, she could have some fun guessing what they were. Grant it, it was a used book but, I wouldn't ship a product to a customer and make them throw it away. | Ish is a beautiful tale that emphasizes the age-old truth, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. A young boy is unsatisfied with his artwork and continually tosses it into the trash because it lacks realism. All the while, his sister is retreiving the pieces of art and hanging them in her room. When he questions her about a drawing of a vase and remarks that it doesn't even look like a vase, the wise little sister says, "It is vase-ish..." Brilliant!

| I really liked Shannon Hale's "Goose Girl" (I expected it to be terrible - it was not). Banking on that, I picked up "Princess Academy" and the fact that Miri was a name I was once oddly obsessed with. The plot seemed sort of silly and the title ridiculous but I said, "What the hey, I'll give this over-girly looking book a shot."
Once again, as with "Goose Girl", I'm glad I gave Hale a chance. She's twice now managed to take seemingly stupid remakes of fairy tales into funny, absolutely enjoyable reads. "Princess Academy", ... Read More: |

I received Unstoppable Me and Angry Octopus on the same day. The pricipals in Unstoppable Me of making choices, being persistent, and self value are easy for children to grasp. I found myself looking for concrete answers to the questions the author poses: Can you think of things to do when you are sad? When you are worried or scared?
