| I owned this book before I even had children. I used it in the classroom as a teaching tool. To drive the point home, I would have the children try to mix piant together to make their shade of skin pigment. They were amazed at how no one is white, and no one is black.

| Is it just me, or does de Paolo have one of the best artistic styles out there? Not only is he a master of art, but he is a grand story teller and is able to retell this story with a childlike wonder that, of course, brings out the necessary wisdom and meaning. | What a simple concept. My daughter was coming home asking why the other kids wouldn't play with her. It broke my heart...she tends to be a little shy. | Our son (13 months) adores the beautiful faces of the babies in this book.

The historic discussion helps to bring students to the present in terms of how maps, in general, evolved. Comparison of globes and flat maps is very instructive. I would have

| Beautiful book that does a good job of explaining about the Winter Solstice. Activities for teaching are provided. Various solstice celebrations throughout time are described.
Couple of issues: The mentioning of celebration of harvests is confusing in that it appears to be connected to the winter solstice when instead harvest celebrations were generally near the autumn equinox.
