Years ago, I read Beauty, McKinley's first attempt at the Beauty and the Beast story. I loved it. Earlier this year, I picked it up again and read it. It held up well and I still find it incredibly charming.

Given how much I enjoyed Beauty, I really wanted to read "Rose Daughter" and see how McKinley's second crack at the tale fared. I expected a lot. I assumed McKinley would have matured as a writer and I was hoping to love it as much as I loved Beauty.

I was wrong.

This is a nice, basic overview of the depression era that is perfect for introducing grade school children to that time in history. The book is filled with pictures and tidbits of info not only about how people coped, but also how they entertained themslves during the course of the depression. I enjoyed it as much as my children did!

As a child therapist, I found this to be a helpful tool in giving my kiddos a tool to concretely work with and to add to my repertoire of aids to help them deal with anger issues in a fun way. For the price, this is a great tool!

This book is an excellent resource for teachers. After reading this book to them, I had them write about one of their family traditions. THis book really inspired their creative writing skills! Many students could relate to some of the traditions in this story. It made them feel special and it caused a lot of verbal interaction between students. It made the students want to learn about each other's cultures!

This books is just glorified politics of good feelings but doesn't really tell what his promise of change really will be. Sad thing people will believe this stuff and follow him into socialism.

I found this book really helpful not only for kids but for grownups (like me) as well. Read on...

I bought this book for my son several years ago. He is now about to enter high school. I think it is as relevant now as it was then.

The book, based on the work of Dr. Howard Gardner and his Theory of Multiple Intelligences, is an easy read. Dr. Gardner studied children and adults to discover more about how people learn. There are at least eight ways to be intelligent and there may be more that haven't been studied yet. ... Read More:

If author Cort Cass hadn't made a serious goof in his attempts at fact-finding, I'd have given his book five stars.

On page 14, discussing Darwin and claiming that his discoveries on selection couldn't account for redheads, Cass claims that "what Darwin failed to realize is that a trait could be selected and passed on purely because the opposite sex found it desirable ... the sexual selection theory." (Cort Cass goes on to give the standard example of sexual selection: the peacock's tail.)
