| Eggs was my first Jerry Spinelli read, which is rather surprising considering two key points: (1) I am an avid reader and (2) I teach elementary school. Overall, I loved the characterization and detail Spinelli exercised throughout the storyline. | I am a teacher in 7th grade and have been teaching Touching Spirit Bear for several years to my classes. It is a story that they all have come to love and enjoy. The lessons and inspiration it provides is eye opening. I was excited to read the sequel since the 1st book doesn't reveal what happens to the two boys once they leave the island.

| we have very few babar books. he died so young, and his family cannot cut it. the later books are so bad that they're offensive. but this is the first and it works. the only sad thing about it is that babar was not brunhoff's brain child but his wife's and she has never gotten credit for it. she created the elephant as bedtime material for their children. he retold them well, and illustrated them as his children cannot but she should have been co-author at the very least! our kids love this book and the characters and if adults poke ... | I like some of the subjects presented-an interracially-adopted child trying to fit in, with his race or his parents'; new kids in school; adding a baby to a family; disabilities, etc. But I found the story very disjointed. Some of the themes were not developed well-probably because there were too many themes and conflicts.
Some of the conclusions the narrator comes too are false, and the author doesn't set her straight before the end of the novel. That makes me nervous about my kids reading it without me. There are a few ... Read More: |

| The book is written in nice,figurative language, but it is far too sad. The book starts out like not such a bad story, but then suddenly it hits this spot with terrible sadness and frustration. Yet, it gives far too many details of how terribly some of the people in the story die.
