| This book was on my son's summer reading list, and I had to take a look. I was impressed with all that was packed into this book in a way that pre-adolescents can absorb and understand. Although the topics were tough -- a mother who leaves her young daughter as she searches for herself, and a grandparent's death, among others -- Creech treated the subjects with a fair amount of humor. | I get a small gift for each of my children on mother's day to basically thank them for without them I would not be a mother. She is soon to be 13 and this was a perfect book for her. She reads bits of it each night and talks with me about it too. Great book! |

| This book is a wonderful way for children to express their thoughts and feelings about dying. This book can be used before the death of a loved one. I bought two of these books for a friend whose husband is dying and they have two young children. They love the books and using art therapy has helped these children to express what they are thinking and feeling. |

| Lois Lowry provides a little look into a fantasy world. No special powers, luckily, but it is an imaginary land with imaginary people. They could exist though, people could be like that... As the book opens our special girl is somewhat even luck to be alive.. Usually when a child is born with a disfigurement they are sent out to die, but Kira, now a teenager was luckily spared. | I read this a young man, and the images it conjured up will haunt me forever. The horror and frustration are unforgetable, and the writing is crisp and vibrant. The ending is both persuasive and lucid and may not turn a war hawk into a pacifist, but it will surely set anyone to thinking. |

| I got this for my 3 yo so we could explore ways of talking to people (each other, family and friends) and work on tone (who knew toddlers could dish snark so early?). She responds to the pictures, where some of the kids look like her and her friends at daycare. I like that there is just the right amount of text, not too didactic, and there are great opportunities for her to imagine what the kids might be saying to each other.
