| Finally, a good kids book illustrating the beauty and sensitivity in shy children. Not only is it perseptive, but it's whimiscal and fun. Even our 2-year-old enjoys this book. The pictures are interesting and provide lots to talk about. Charlene is a cool chick once you get to know her. |

| This is a great book for 4-5th graders. The story deals with prejudice and bullying in an unusual setting. Rural New Hampshire during the Great Depression provides the backdrop for young girls encountering discrimination among French-Canadian-American and other local families. | A wonderfully written and illustrated book which really appealed to both my young sons. My 8 year-old loved the book because "the boy was able to overcome his shyness and help someone" and my 5 year-old was so happy that "the boy made a new friend and wasn't alone anymore". This beautifully illustrated book had such a warm message about overcoming shyness - a real obstacle to many children today. I would thoroughly recommend this book, especially for any child suffering from shyness. |

| This is a touching book about caring. It recognizes the nature of shy children without treating this nature as some kind of disability. I think it is OK not to be pushy and aggressive. Sometimes shy children are an asset. They often are smart and sensitive to the needs of others. We need more sensitive people and more books like this one. |
