| It's hard to say refuse a book with a fifteen-word subtitle, especially if tailing a three-word, barely-a-sentence title. There is no need to introduce the characters here, as the subtitle meets that need. The tone of "Toys Go Out" is light and the reading is easy, but the subject matter is much meatier than mere amusement. | It's not as charming as all that, and definitely written in a different era - no non-white characters, zoo animals in cages, that sort of thing. There's nothing wrong with that - no sense judging it on our mores - but as it's not overly interesting either I can't sensibly give it more than three stars. |

| When my son was three, he made me read this book to him so many times that even now, 22 years later, I know the entire thing by heart.
Kids love this book. Parents do, too, at least the first 10 or 12 thousand times they read it to the kids! |
