One of my favorite books for the last 30 years. A wonderful set of stories about kids who use their brains to figure out problems and have adventures. Positive stories that are well written.

There's a story in this anthology called "Wishing it Away," which is so addictive even the most reluctant reader will be at the edge of his/her seat, begging for more. Most of these stories are "sure things." I recommend them for 9th grade, especially.

I bought this book very hopeful to use it for a summer camp I was planning called Slimy, Gooey & Disgusting. I thought there would be silly short stories or disgusting facts that I could post or share. I didn't find anything helpful in that regard. I don't even think I would give it to a kid who hates to read hoping that the title would get him to open the book.

Books : Stuck in Neutral
A wonderfully imagined look into the mind of a boy debilitated by cerebral palsy. The author, who himself has a son with cerebral palsy, imagines that Shawn, though confined to a wheelchair with absolutely no control over his own motor functions, is very smart, incredibly observant, and has perfect memory of everything he's heard since a young age.

Unfortunately, what Shawn's been hearing lately makes him think that his father is planning to kill him, to "end his pain." Naturally, Shawn has his own ... Read More:

This was great for my beginning reader granddaughter. The process of reading finally clicked, and she read the book through many times. It also spurred her on to try to read other books.

Okay for short read when short on time, but some of the mysteries are much too predictable.

This book is one of my all time favorite stories! It is about a little girl who goes to stay with her "mean" grandfather high in the Swiss mountains. She thrives in the mountain air and shares a special love with her grandfather. She is later taken away to live in Frankfurt with a wealthy family as a companian for a sick little girl, but being away from her grandfather and mountain air makes Heidi so homesick she actually becomes physically ill. She finally is able to return to her mountain and is part of a miracle ... Read More:

The language of "Come on Rain" is as colorful and vibrant as the beautiful artwork. Karen Hesse uses just about every literary device in this book which makes it a wonderfully interesting teaching tool. At the same time, it is a melodic read-aloud, first creating a true sense of heat, and following with the refreshment of impending rain. When the Mamas join in, my eyes still well up (even after 30+ reads). Although Mr. Muth received a well-deserved award for his illustrations, Ms. Hesse deserves a literary award for ... Read More:

Iza Trapani is one of the best! I love everyone of her books! And so does my grandaughter. I don't have time to review every book I have bought, but if her name is attached to it, it is going to be GREAT!

I have always loved reading Robert Munsch to children. Now that I have my own (3 1/2 year old) I love reading even more. The stories are hilarious to my son and he wants to read them every day. The only problem is that in almost every story, the adult male is smoking either a pipe or a cigar. We often talk about smoking and how unhealthy it is and that sometimes adults make bad choices. I would rather not have that conversation around children's literature.
