A friend gave these books to my 13-year-old son. This is his review:

Overall, I believe these books are a very good read. They are filled with interesting puzzles that will test your mental capabilities, and plenty of action. So, without further ado, The Mysterious Benedict society!

The first book is more of a book of puzzles than an action book. I thought the plot was interesting. It's about four children who are sent to a strange location on a secret mission.

ATLAS SHRUGGED is Ayn Rand's 1000+ page story of an ideological struggle between socialists and extreme libertarians. The goal of both sides is the attainment of a noble life, or lives. That's a key point: these folks don't merely want a satisfactory economy; they want honor. For both sides, an economic system is a means to that end, not an end in itself.

The socialists believe in government control of the economy, so businesses can pursue objectives other than maximizing profit, disregarding ... Read More:

When I first heard of the premise of this book, I thought, "Wow, what a great idea!" I still think it is a great idea for a book, however, this book was incredibly disappointing! Too many odd names and places which makes it difficult to follow. After reading 1/2 of this book, I took it to a used book store and made $1.50 off of it. I was tired of wasting my time reading it each night hoping the story would hook me. It never happened.

Books : The Alchemist: A Fable About Following Your Dream
Those that know me well already know that I have a propensity for being the last one in on a fad. That is to say, no, prior to this, I had never read "The Alchemist." But several friends told me I needed to, and so I finally got around to reading it.

I put this book in the same category as I do the "poetry" of Maya Angelou, or the "star appeal" of Britney Spears. OK, so what's all the fuss about? If that's poetry, then so is all the scribbling on bathroom walls, and if she's talented, I'm the next Emperor of China.

Back when 3.5 was the edition-of-the-time, supplement books tended to contain some good extra material, some less-useful stuff, and then large quantities of annoying fluff. There was material, and in some cases that material was definitely worth paying for, but none of them had good material packed all that densely into their pages.

Martial Power is the polar opposite of that. There's a tiny bit of less-useful stuff, almost no fluff, and an IMMENSE quantity of very useful material to expand the martial classes found in the 4E PHB. Some elements ... Read More:

Neal Stephenson's Anathem is probably his master piece. I've read several of his earlier books: Snow Crash, The Diamond Age, Cryptonomicon, and the entire Triology. All of them are good to great reads, but I believe this one is special because it contains so many ideas (a valued characteristic of his stories), and is wonderfully written besides. Just one bit of advice going in: read the glossary first. This is one book that requires a glossary, and it was not added as an afterthought.

30.Nation by: Terry Pratchett

Books : Nation
I must start by saying that Terry Pratchett is one of my top 10 favorite authors next to Douglas Adams, Isaac Asimov, PG Wodehouse and Robert Jordan. So going into this book, I probably have a pro-Pratchett bias. If you feel this is makes me unqualified to review this book, click the no next the question was this helpful and move on to the next review.

This title is an exploration of the coming of age plot. The main character is literally coming to age by the practices of his tribe when a strange and sudden tragedy forces him to come into full adult responsibility ... Read More:
