Light, fast and satisfying.

An enjoyable romp. Not as dark as much recent Space Opera has been (I'm looking at you, Banks and Reynolds). More on the military side of the street, this book follows John "Black Jack" Geary, a historical captain found in a lifepod a century after his time. He's rescued by his own fleet and find that things have not changed much since he left. The same war continues and his people are still in it.

Books : The Fiery Cross
I absolutely adore this series. They're not like anything else I've read and they have every element of good fiction a reader could ask for. The characters are quirky and flawed enough to be realistic, but also have enough redeeming qualities to make them lovable. Every time I open up one of Gabaldon's books, I'm immediately whirled into a completely different time and place. Excellent, excellent series.

As has been duly noted over and over, this is a loooong book. I don't see that as a necessarily ... Read More:

Books : Next
This novel is disappointing by Michael Crichton's lofty standards. It bears the Crichton trademark in being well-researched, intellectually substantial and provocative. Otherwise, it fares poorly on all other accounts.

The book highlights the moral hazard surrounding current bio-technological developments, especially in the area of genetic engineering. These issues are brought into sharp relief against the lives of real people grappling with real day-to-day problems. Human tissues are stolen for research purposes ... Read More:

This is a good book. Enjoyed the plot and storyline. Very imaginative and thought provoking.

165.Eragon (Inheritance, Book 1) by: Christopher Paolini

Books : Eragon (Inheritance, Book 1)
Paolini has a fabulous story in the Inheritance series, and Eragon is largely devoted to setting up questions that are to follow the reader through the later books. While Eragon does drag in a few places, I liked it well enough to read the later books, and this is an excellent series. If you enjoy fantasy like Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, or Harry Potter, these books will be right up your alley.

When her first book came out, one reviewer said this series was J.R. Ward rip-off. I guess the person was referring to the tortured hero and the heroine who sets him free. If that's the case, I could list a lot more books that fit that description. This is romance and most in this genre follow a formula.

Over the years, I've read a ton of books in this field. I usually don't favor one sub-genre over the other. I search for something particular in each book and originality isn't it. I look for that emotional pull that is so strong, ... Read More:

If you love your future dystopian, then this is the book you want to get and read as this is one of the more interesting dystopian future books since Little Brother. While Brian Francis Slattery who wrote the book could not have foreseen what is happening on the stock market, housing bubble, manufacturing collapse that is happening now when he originally penned the book, it is strangely prophetic with ties deep into what is happening today. The premise of the book is that after a monumental collapse of the American economic system, the USA is divided ... Read More:

Joe Abercrombie does a nice job with the first book of his First Law Series. Setting the story in a well-built world and filling it with interesting, gritty characters creates a good balance of stage-setting and story-telling.

The Blade Itself is told from the perspective of five-sic major characters who are gradually drawn together and who's collected experiences create a very interesting combination. There is the mage, the apprentice, the barbarian, the gifted young noble, the crippled anti-hero....and so forth. Very interesting characters ... Read More:

"Mere Mortals" is the second book in the 'epic' Trek mini-series, 'Destiny'. As a reader, I felt slightly let down by the first book due to the varied plots which prevents the focus being put on the topic at hand - The Borg. This installment continues the many plots introduced in the first novel, as well as previous books that lead up to this novel event. In all, not bad, but some minor critiques:

The Bad: With four different crews or situations competing for space and attention, yet again the Borg situation isn't really given its time to develop ... Read More:
