This book is remarkable in many ways, not the least of which is its mythological ties. This book has one of the greatest Jesus stories of our time, retold with fantasy and science fiction, to bring relevance to the ancient stories of our past.

Books : The Amber Spyglass, Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition (His Dark Materials, Book 3)
Philip Pullman's series is like a mirror - what bounces back at you has a lot to do with what you bring to it. It's no secret that the author is an atheist, and exposes readers to this often disturbing possibility. Doubters will find it fascinating, even carthartic. True believers will, on the whole, find it offensive.
But in the firestorm of enthusiasm or loathing, don't overlook the undeniable fact that this is a terrific work of imagination. There are more delightful new ideas - ones having nothing ... Read More:

"'Soon we will be everywhere!' she hissed. 'Very soon...'" - Amarantz

In this second book of the DELTORA SHADOWLANDS trilogy Lief, Barda and Jasmine must journey to find the second piece of the Pirran Pipe, the only thing the Shadow Lord fears on his own territory. But to get it they must face the horrifying Isle of Illusion.

Emily Rodda tells this story with terrific fluency. The SHADOWLANDS trilogy is a lot darker than the original series and is a bit more graphic but still it should appeal ... Read More:

I have read most of the books in this series and looking back on this one makes me mad. First, the story is terrible compaired to later books in the series. It didn't interest me and wasn't nessesary to the upcoming books. Also, she made Xanatos look like a not to bad villian, which he's not. I think that this book could be skipped and you could go to 3 immediatly where things start to get better.

Rodda's creativity continues to blow me away in a novel that takes us clear into the a land that has gone dead. Here the plot really comes alive with more characters and a solid mystery and purpose. Emily Rodda continues to prove herself an exemplorary author with plenty of talent and a real insight to the storytelling process.

This was a good book. Palpatine starts dropping hints to Anakin, (which can get very annoying,) Astri Otto comes back in, a few older characters, and some new. The only reason I didn't rate this as a full 5 stars, is I found a typo which drove me insane. If you want to see it, when you reach it, it's on page 104, near the top. Read it carefully, and you'll see it.

Oh, I don't know! This was a weird book for me (and yes, I realize that the rest of the series is far from normal) but to me it was abrupt, a copout of ending the series without requiring much brainstorming. I tried to appreciate where she put the characters--I think she was aiming for a "realistic" ending when it came to the series' citizens. But come on--this is a teen sci-fi series and none of us really wanted realistic. Some wrap-ups were all right, but some were beyond insane and cheesy and it seemed to me that Ms. Applegate ... This was actually the first book of the series I read--my mom bought my twin brother and I the first two books of the series for our 12th birthday back in the day (wow, is the series really that old?!) I got this one because it had the girl turning into the pretty kitty, and I like cats. So I read it and that is pretty much when it happened. I don't care much for the middle section of this series, but K. A. Applegate truly started this series off with a bang and an excellent plot and a nice blend of emotion and action. It's classically sci ... Read More:
