| The Boxcar Children series is about 4 orphans living with their grandfather. My son loves these books and so do I. Not only are they fun to read, it's fun to try to solve the mystery that unwinds in each one. These books are perfect for 2-5th grade. Older children tend to think they are immature. The story and artwork might seem a little dated at first, but then this IS a prequel and I have no idea whether the effect was intentional but it panned out phenomenally! Mazzucchelli's artwork adds a new dimension to Miller's already amazing skill as a storyteller who is especially adept at weaving his magic with the Dark Knight. | The illustrations in this book are really beautiful. I was drawn to the watercolor paintings in this book. If you're a hard core dragon fan, there aren't too many interesting dragon facts in here. I'd say this book is worth getting for its art, not for its content (if you are an adult anyway) |

| Secret pouches, treasure gems, letters, pirate flags...lots of fun!
We bought this for our young children (5-year old and 4-year old) as they were excited by the Pirates of the Caribbean movie trilogy. We bought this book along with "Pirates" by John Matthews last year. We take the books off the shelf every couple months and read through them for bedtime. | i just can't believe how many people think this book is "disturbing" and "twisted"...
i just finished reading it to my 6 year old and he says "what a beautiful story". and that's exactly what it is: a STORY!!! but i guess people who even think fairy tales are cruel and not intended for kids can't enjoy this kind of book. |

| I love all of Scott's books because I always end up learning so much from them.
Extras is no different. We get a society who is obsessed with fame, so much that they have hovercams following them around all over the place. The main character is no Tally Youngblood, but I liked her a lot and as usual, I love the things in the Uglies world, like their slang and all their cool technology. We get to see Tally again after three years, so that was cool, too. If you liked the Uglies series, you should read this book. |

| I was a pretty big fan of the first Maximum Ride book when I read it last year, but for some reason I never found the time to read the second installment until a couple weeks ago.
Well, I've finished the book, and I must say I am satisfied, although there were things about it that bugged me. I very much liked the idea of taking the obviously abnormal Flock and having them put into a school (not The School, but a normal-or seemingly normal- public school). | So it turns out that the "monster" is actually the protagonist which, while having shades of postmodern antihero angst that wil reverberate strongly with fans of, say, Kafka or Burroughs, really threw me for a loop as a kid.
My two year old, on the other hand, has no problem with this conceit, and wants me to read it to him regularly. He'll understand how cruel this all is when he get a bit older. Oh yes. In the meantime, I'll read it for him over and over and over and over, and never get tired of it. |
