| I thought that this book was pretty good, and it makes me compare my life to hers. How she struggles and wants to learn and how I don't have as much of a passion for learning. I know that a girl of 12 or 13 wrote the diary, but the sentences were not very well written and were not complete sentences. The entries were very simple like," A teacher arrives. "The Human Body" by Seymour Simon is about how the body works. There was some really good information in the book, but the best part was definitely the pictures. There are pictures on pretty much every page. There is a neat colored x-ray of the skull. There is a 2-page drawing of a see-through body where you can see all the blood vessels and organs. | My child is 5 entering Grade 1 this year. This book is a great summer review of the things she learned in Kindergarten and sharpened some of her writing and math skills. A lot of it, however, seemed a bit simplistic: a lot of coloring pages, etc. Since it's summer vacation, though, we're considering it a bit of a break: she doesn't quite need the focus we'd normally ask of her. And she does get to fine-tune her writing skills as well as develop a more thorough understanding of addition and subtraction. |

I just couldn't wait to get out of that book store and go home so that I could read it, seeing as though all of the great things I've heard about the series. | I selected this book, among others, to help my daughter make the adjustment to middle school. Although this wasn't her favorite, she enjoyed it very much. She has always struggled a bit with organization skills in school (forgetting assignments, not getting forms signed, etc.). This book provided some good practical tips for getting and staying organized and really hit home the importance of organization -- something I've been telling her for some time. (But sometimes it needs to come from someone other than Mom.) |

| My ds (10 y.o.) started using this book in August of this year (2007). He's on lesson 45 now, and I am very pleased. His spelling, punctuation, caps and other basic knowledge of grammar have improved immensely! His writing has become more expressive and enjoyable to read. He is able to use this book for independent learning. The only times he needs me are to read aloud dictation lessons, to listen to his recitation of memorization lessons, and to mark mistakes on his finished paper so he can make corrections.
