| This series written by Dan Gutman is about 2nd grade kids and their days at school. Each book focuses on the same friends and is about a different teacher. My grandson loves this series and have read all 21. He is 8 and laughs at something in each chapter. GREAT SERIES. I would recommend this series to everyone - main characters are boys and girls so great book for both genders. We read this book on the way to school and when I pick him up from school. | I am all for books that are cool enough for young boys to read on their own - heck - we have every Capt. Underpants book in creation... but I was a little turned off by the text in this book. In the first few chapters alone, there were lots of "I hate her" and "She is stupid", "She is dumb", etc, etc. I'm not a total prude about these words - but the reading level of this book strikes me as "early 2nd grade"- meaning that this book is most likely to be read by 1st and 2nd graders. | One of my very favorite authors from when I was a "young adult" I recently picked up Dicey's song from a bookstore and now I remember why I loved her books so much. Cynthia Voigt really brings out the characters in her books, and makes it easy to relate to tough issues. I am looking forward to re-reading some of my old favorites and also discovering some new stories from Voigt as well. |
