| if you read the princess and the goblin, read the princess and curdie. in this story, curdie the miner is a little older and less innocent. the mysterious old woman sends him on a quest to save the king from a plot against him. once again, you get george macdonalds lovely writing, so dont pass this up. he is one of the few fantasy authors whose style makes you want to relax, curl up, and enjoy a thoroughly fun story. no cheesy, fluffy epic quest here, just a very classic fantasy. there are more characters in this ... | I had been looking online for this book for some time - I remember it very well from my childhood, and wanted it for my grandchildren. Although, like "The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins" and "Bartholomew and the Oobleck", the story has dark and sinister elements, there is enough of a fairytale setting to make this book exciting and memorable without it being terrifying - and there is always a very good "moral" to the tale - in this case, individuality must be nurtured, not crushed. | My six year old loves this series, she can read one book at a sitting and is anxious to read another. These are chapter books, and could be challenging for some 6 or 7 year olds to read on their own, but if you little princess is a strong reader, these books are a great way to reinforce the principle that there is more to being a princess than being beautiful.

| This diary, about Catherine the Great, was enjoyable and exciting. It describes Catherine's family and her journey to meet her future husband. He doesn't quite meet up to her expectations, but they learn to enjoy each others company. Catherine's future as his wife looks good...until he gets smallpox.
I especially like the paintings at the back of the book, so I can see what the different people looked like. The extra information about Catherine's later life is also very good. |

| Fantastic book! I read it back in middle school the first time, and just reread it now. Still as enchanting as always. The characters are great, you can't help falling in love with Christian and Marigold's lives. This is basically a fairy tale for people who might not be the biggest fans of fairy tales. It's cute, it's refreshing, it's got the obligatory happily-ever-after ending that sweetens any day. | This series of books, of which these are the first three, is entertaining and addictive. I found the character of Mia delightful in a neurotic-teenage-girl kind of way. (Please forgive my redundancy.) From the first I realized that my children were too young yet to enjoy this series - it is inappropriate for anyone pre-teen or younger - but after reading the entire series so far, I've decided that I don't want my children reading it even when they are older.
