| I'm a great animal-lover and also an avid reader of young-adult fiction, so I knew as soon as I heard about this book that I'd like it. Turns out it's extraordinarily beautifully written--a modest and understated debut that utterly delighted me. It may be that it's a little too low-key to make it onto the gatekeepers' radar, but this is the kind of book that should be winning the big prizes in children's literature! | This is a wonderful poetry book as is all of Douglas Florian's books. It actually reminds you of how wonderful poetry can be and how it can be easy to share with students. This book teaches about many types of lizards, frogs and you guessed it, Polliwogs! A wonderful book of poetry even for those who claim to dislike it. |

| Although this book is described as being for the 4-8 year-old group, it seemed to me more like a 7-12 year-old book that will only appeal to those who don't have nightmares about poisonous snakes.
I was attracted to the book by realizing that the various animal-related stories that Alexander McCall Smith includes in his No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency books were among my favorite parts of those books. | Ten cool reptile and amphibian temporary tattoos. Last year I handed some of these out for Halloween, the kids just kept coming. "We heard you have the tattoos!" The yellow and green collared lizard is the best, but it's a very near thing. There's also a really neat green tree frog, a Jackson's chameleon, and a lovely eastern newt. There's an odd-looking crocodile (just the head is shown, from the front), and a disembodied iguana head, but it's probably a matter of personal taste, the neighbor kids seemed to like them all. ... | This was a very entertaining and well-illustrated book - full of subtle, and not-so-subtle puns that entertains adults and kids alike. Makes your mouth water for some greasy fried grasshoppers. My kid's favorite line is now "The 'I' stands for...I'll be waiting!" Great book! |

| My son is 9 years old and hates chapter books, he would much rather be reading non-fiction. When I found the Chet Gecko series at the store, I took a chance and bought the first book. At first my son refused to read it, but after reading the first two chapters aloud as a bedtime story, he was hooked. He has since read all of the Chet Gecko novels and loves each and every one.
