| I was looking for a good thesaurus for my 3rd grader, one that he could grow with. Good writing is all about good words and new ways of saying things. Everyone should have a thesaurus! | Excellent practical application book of concepts in the English language. The emphasis is on sentence structure and word usage (like verb agreement, capitalization, punctuation, etc.), and the analogies are good in terms of reinforcing word meanings. The only thing missing for me is the instructions for the concepts covered. For instance, explaining the use of quotation marks would have been helpful (my son is more of a visual learner than auditory - so having instructions written out helps him understand the ... | I attended one of Kelly Gallagher's lectures last summer and was instantly hooked on his honesty, humor, and principles. I purchased Teaching Adolescent Writers and have used it almost daily. Gallagher's ideas and techniques make so much sense and what's even better is that everything he suggests are exactly what we teachers of writing need. | The only thing missing from this curriculium is a writing course. The book makes learning grammar soooo easy. I used this for all three of my children. Once finished with this book they flew through other curriculiums with much more understanding!

| Yes, we have been checking out a lot of books about elections and voting since we are right in the middle of a presidential election year, and I have alot of opinions about the quality of books that are out there for children. I really liked "Grace for President" (I reviewed that one as well). I felt that Doreen Cronin's book, "Duck for President" was written more to poke fun at the process than explain it to kids so that they can understand how things are really supposed to work. | I teach English to children in France and this book has very little content geared for my needs and not worth the $12 I spent. I love to teach with mini-books that I create myself, so I was drawn to the title. However, I found the ones offered here very dull, i.e. copying number words, rather than engaging their creativity by having them illustrate the number word. | I bought this book for my 5 year old son -- who looooves bionicles. He loves to create the bionicles in the book, however the pictures are small so it makes a bit harder. He does love to listen to the descriptions of all the bionicles. Only complaint -- larger pictures would have been better. |
