Books : Problem-Solving Exercises in Physics
I have used the previous edition of this book for years and loved it. I actually use it in my Integrated Physics and Chemistry class. While I don't use every chapter, many of the chapters like motion, force, energy, and electricity are ideal for a lower level physics class. Her questions are cute and funny and the examples prior to the worksheets are IDEAL. They work problems just like the ones in the workbook.

This book is patronizing and verbose. For example, there is a passage in which Einstein reflects upon his appearance as he stands before a mirror. Surely this entire episode was invented to fill space since no historian would ever record such mundane private thoughts. This wasted space might have been used to discuss the physics that made Einstein famous. Instead, this book contains long passages on history and politics but only limited discussion of science.

My 3 year old slightly autistic son has never really taken to books about colors. I have tried for over a year to find a book that will excite him about colors. This book has done it for some reason. I don't know if it's because he can identify with the fruits and vegetables we pick out at the grocery or just what it is. He points to the pictures in the book and tries to say their color! To me it is a huge breakthrough! I love it that when we are done reading it and I tell him all done he says "again" ... Read More:

Books : Junior's Colors (Veggietales Series)
This is wonderfully written. My 3 yr old son loves saying, "But Bob is very red." (a repeated line in the book) In my particular book, the small board book, the blue color looks more purple than blue, but, other than that, this book is fantastic. It gets read a lot in our house.

138.Rainbow and You by: Edwin C. Krupp

Books : Rainbow and You
Our kids loved this book. Explained really well the science of light defraction, with a nice history of other cultures beliefs on the history of rainbows. Even included the biblical perspective. An excellent book to use with a unit study on light and rainbows.

As usual, Branley has presented science in a clear and very readable format. However, Day Light, Night Light has a limited content scope--natural and man-made sources of light and seeing objects from reflected light. Other books in this "Let's read and find out science" series have a much broader usability because of the excellent content which stretches their appropriateness higher than the reading level of the text. I often look for books by Branley and others in this series for my curriculum development work.

This text has numerous photographs and illustrations. The text is a little cumbersome for some readers. It does provide opportunities for enriching scientific vocabulary. As homeschoolers, our family is using this text together with several others. This definitely shouldn't be the text of choice for very small children, but it is ideal for older, more experienced readers/scientists.
