My son is 10 1/2 and has issues with anxiety. I thought this would help from all the great reviews it received. I think it is a good book but is better suited for slightly younger children. He read it all at once. I asked him did he feel it was going to help him. He said, "No, it really didn't talk about any of the things that I feel nervous about." "I'm not really afraid of dogs." I told him that he should be able to use the information he learned when they discussed dogs in his own situations. ... Read More:

Good books are often challenging and provoke wonderful - if not always easy - conversations. This one certainly fit that bill and gave me a chance to talk to my son about topics that are sometimes hard to bring up. (Poverty, racism, privilege, sexuality, etc.)

I've been a fan of Sherman Alexie for several years, so was very excited when he wrote a YA book just before my son was ready for it. I read it first as I usually do, and decided to hold it back a year and let him read it at the end of ... Read More:

Well, I'm 14 and perfectly authorized to write a review for this book since it IS for teenagers. The entire freshman class is being required to read this book as a part of our 48 Books Program and some of us like it and some of us absolutely can't stand it. I would give it the fact that it's remotely interesting but it's mean in a way that if you do something wrong you're totally undermining your self-esteem and I think that's just plain wrong. To make this book better he should have put more in that are popular ... Read More:

I love this story. I find myself smiling and getting that warm, fuzzy feeling as the father rabbit and son exchange conversation about how much they love each other, each one topping the other's love.

This is one of the first books that I bought for my son because it tells of the boundless love that a parent has for their children. Truly, one of the sweetest children's books ever written.

I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

Highly recommend.

I borrowed this book from my public library and I was at first impressed with the little pictures and the layout of the book which really made it inviting to read. However, on reading it, I don't think there is anything really interesting about this book. It's not even that funny to me. I did read the whole book though. I have a better recommendation. Try « The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole » by Sue Townsend. There is about three in the series and while the first one was written in the 1980s and makes references to UK ... Read More:

Author S.E. Hinton writes with a keen sense of teenage fears, emotions, and alienation from the world of adults. The story concerns the divide between the richer Socs and the lower-income Greasers in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The main character is Ponyboy Curtis, an orphan who is likeable, tough, fearful, and into his Greaser gang. Ponyboy and his peers must deal with a confusing mix of school, friends, the socs, the law, and problems at home. Do you what to buy a book you'll love to read? If you do, you should read Chrysanthemum By Kevin Henkes. Kevin Henkes is a good author. Chrysanthemum is a good children's book. If you are a mom you should read it to your child. They might love it like a favorite book. In the book Chrysanthemum loved her name until she went to school. The kids teased Chrysanthemum and said "you're named after a flower" and a girl named Victoria that was in her class teased her the most. Her parents said her name was perfect but Chrysanthemum did not think ... Read More:

10-year-old Annemarie Johannesen narrates this story (based on real events) set in Denmark during WWII. The Danish resistance arranged to transport many Jews to safety in Sweden after they found out that Jews were being sent to concentration camps by the Nazis.

Annemarie is not Jewish, but her best friend, Ellen, is. Annemarie's family helps smuggle Ellen and her parents, along with several other Jewish families, out of the country. Lowry manages to give the reader a sense of the horror of the Holocaust without going into graphic detail. ... Read More:

Every child and adult should have this book.

There are many controversies about The Giving Tree, many will write that it is a self-less act of love, an issue with co-dependency, or may even send a bad example of relationships with creating selfish children/adults.

I think one of the greatest things about this story is that you can interpret it differently at evolving life stages.

From a child who sees a self-less act of love to an adult who has been in a troubled relationship (much like the tree and the boy).
