| After reading the reviews, I went back to look at our copy. Although in theory I agree that, for young children, the group of animals should be on the same side as the corresponding number, I really don't think it matters because the animals are in the main picture, whereas the numbers are in a box, (cleverly drawn as a billboard/streetsign), with a tiny group of animals over each number. In other words, it says 3+2+5 and over the three is a picture of three animals and over the two is a picture ... Read More: |

| This is a wonderful book for use with first or second graders. It covers 1/2, 1/3 and 1/4 in an engaging way that demonstrates realistic everyday uses for fractions that young children can relate to. Animals devide into two groups for a tug of war, three groups for a swimming race and four groups for a canoe race. A great introduction to fractions! |

| But it's good for 5 to 10-year olds. It appeals to the hands-on kid, but doesn't speak down to them at all. Explains the concepts (fractions, averages, volume, graphs, measurements, etc.) clearly and quickly, then gives exercises and fun things for the kid to try. Mostly needs parent to be helping, though most are simple. We loved making a color spinner and folding paper (doubling). We charted doubling to show her what a parabola looked like. | We used this book to begin our 7 year old daughter's treasure hunt birthday party! That was 3 years ago and it is still a family favorite. The mystery is intriging and they don't even realize they are getting math practice too!! |

| This is a brilliant book. I purchased it when my 2.5 year old son was refusing to sleep to try to explain to him that everyone sleeps, and why everyone sleeps. I could relate the facts in the book to things he understood, including when Caroline (a character in the book) goes to sleep and how she gets cranky when she doesn't get her nap. Thereafter he would say he needed his sleep so that he wasnt cranky like Caroline! He loves reading the book before nap and bed time - and the last few pages about drifting off ... Read More: |

| My kindergartner loves this book. We read it every night. She is learning basic addition without even realizing it. I also love that the animals are mostly from Australia including dingos, kangaroos and platypuses. A great book to pass down or share with friends. |
