131.John Milton's Paradise Lost (Modern Critical Interpretations) by: John Milton

Books : John Milton's Paradise Lost (Modern Critical Interpretations)
First off, let me say that we're not talking here about the famous Qi gong instructor named John Milton. We're talking about the famous 17th-century English poet who wrote _Paradise Lost_ and _Paradise Regained_, two of the most wonderfully overlong Christian poems in the history of Western literature.

Your English teacher will tell you that _Paradise Lost_ "narrates the story of Adam and Eve's disobedience, explains how and why it happened, and places the story within the larger context ... Read More:

The book was smaller than I expected(after all, a movie was made that was based on it), but, after all, it is a comic book and there is plenty of content in it(a picture is worth half a page from a normal book). Anyway, a thing worth bying.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone who likes to get lost in the thick forest of words, beautifully arranged by the author, to take you through uncharted territories. You'll be introduced to a magic world where maps, stories, life and time are blended into a mind galaxy. Peter Turchi is a gifted writer, full of wit, imagination and knowledge. More than a book, it's a journey into text and its endless possibilities. Don't miss it!

134.Other Voices, Other Rooms by: Truman Capote

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Books : Other Voices, Other Rooms
Other Voices Other Rooms is at times massively confusing, intensely beautiful, and mystical. Often, all at the same time. Capote's command and use of language and style is unquestionably brilliant, and many times the text reads like poetry. Capote is simply a masterful composer of language. Every word in its rightful place.
Capote also has the gift that many writers lack and that is a descriptive prowess that completely surrounds the reader and engulfs them in the world of the text. The first time that Idabel describes the history ... Read More:

136.The Winter's Tale (Macmillan Shakespeare) by: William Shakespeare

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Books : The Winter's Tale (Macmillan Shakespeare)
"A Winter's Tale" is two romances in a single play. The tragic but open romance of Leontes and Hermione, and the ultimately joyful but initially clandestine romance of Florizel and Perdita. The tale spans more than a decade and can serve as a cautionary tale about mistrust and jealousy.

My favorite character was Autolycos. Rogue, thief, impersonator of nobility, but the linkage that pulled some of the threads together in the end.

This one feels long, even by Shakespearian standards. On the other hand it was easier to ... Read More:

137.OUTSIDE OVER THERE. by: Maurice. Sendak

Books : OUTSIDE OVER THERE.
Both of my daughters were enchanted by this book. We got it when they were 2 & 3 years old. Children have rich imaginations and rather than being frightened (as some reviewers thought children might be) they felt empowered by the story. Parents are not always around when you're faced with a frightening situation. Ida was able to save her baby sister and return her to the garden because she listened to and acted on the internalized teachings of her father. And in the end, the goblins turned out to be "just babies, like her sister." All was well.

If you're required to read this book in high school, then kudos to your teacher for introducing you to George Eliot.

Having said that, when I was in high school, I wouldn't have appreciated George Eliot either. She was a master crafter of literature, choosing words thoughtfully and laying patiently the foundation of characters, observations, storylines to form a more perfect novel. In other words, to most high school readers of classic literature, her books can be boring.

But wait at least 10 years, pick up her works again, and find ... Read More:

This is a great book. It is written as if it were a true tour guide to some place and it tells the truth about fantasy books. For example: Do you ever hear about people wearing socks in fantasy books? Diana Wynne Jones points out that on your travels through fantasyland, socks will be one of the articles of clothing you will lack, along with the coat (you will have no choice but to use a cloak, if only because it makes you look cool from the back when you flee from impending danger). Everything she states in this book is so true and stated so seriously that you just can't ... Read More:
