My daughter is half korean and almost 3 years old, this is great for supporting the small ammount of korean language exposure she gets. She already knows most of the songs and automatically repeats the words that are spoken. I am going to order the next one too.

After all the rave reviews for this course, I hate to rain on the parade. However, I feel that some crucial parts are missing from the other reviews. Yes, it's a good book and for exactly the reasons other reviewers have mentioned. The grammar is very well defined and Afrikaans is a remarkably easy language to learn.

Unfortunately, this books comes with a major problem. No wordlists! In almost any other Colloquial or Teach Yourself course, each dialogue is followed by a word list containing ... Read More:

While the Colloquial course enjoy a good reputation for its courses in European languages, the courses for Asian languages are almost all of far lower quality. The Arabic courses, Colloquial Persian, Colloquial Tamil, Colloquial Punjabi, Colloquial Vietnamese, Colloquial Urdu are all much shorter and more rudimentary than the average European language course. Unfortunately, Colloquial Hindi is no exception.

The main problem with this course is simple, far too little content. This leads to two consequences: ... Read More:

As a teacher of English as a Second Language, I have used many different picture dictionaries. The Oxford Picture Dictionary for Kids is very well organized and uses a group of characters that provide continuity throughout the dictionary. These characters provide a continual story line so that I use the dictionary not only for "finding words," but also as a base for teaching content-area information. The pictures are clear and well-defined and cover a large vocabulary spectrum.

Books : Learn German the Fast and Fun Way (Barron's Fast and Fun Way Language Series)
I teach a conversational German class. I had about an hour to review primers at a major book chain. I picked Learn German by P. Graves out of about 15 other textbooks. It seemed to have a good mix of simple as well as up to date examples of German conversation. The illustrations appear childish at times but they do get the ideas translated very well. The fill in blanks are great with the answers upside down at the bottom of the page. This makes it much more convenient than having the answers at the end of the book that most others ... Books : The Oxford Picture Dictionary for the Content Areas Cassettes (The Oxford Picture Dictionary for the Content Areas)
I like this book because it is specfically made for school aged children. I am currently tutoring 11 and 13 year old boys, and I was previously using the more detailed Oxford Picture Dictionaries with them, but found this book today at my library. This is the only ESL picture dictionary I have found that specifically focuses on school subject matter. It contains illustrations of school aged children. However, I would like to see verbs commonly used, i.e, read, write, study, add, subtract, etc.

37.Far from the Madding Crowd: 1800 Headwords (Oxford Bookworms Library) by: Thomas Hardy

Books : Far from the Madding Crowd: 1800 Headwords (Oxford Bookworms Library)
These nine stories feature various gentle, usually innocent main characters who are faced with dilemmas or knowledge that even they do not often understand. The stories are well-written. They are touchingly understated. Their gentleness amplifies the almost-hidden pain of the characteres. Somehow, the veneer of innocence in the stories makes the hints of ugliness even more shocking. These stories are enigmatic glimpses into the real world.

I really learned a lot from this book in the early stages of my Japanese studies. In fact, I feel like this Romaji version contains muuuuch more info than the Kana version. I hate how the two are sooo different. I just feel like any Japanese student can learn soooo much more if they begin with Kana and ignore Romaji all together. Romaji is sooo useless except for the very early phases of learning sounds, so try as much as you can to use Hiragana and Katakana if you want to learn Kanji someday.

As an EFL (Enlgish as a Foreign Language) teacher, teaching abroad for nine of the last 10 years, I have a pretty good idea of what a person needs to learn a language, reading, writing, listening, and speaking are the four elements of Second Language Acquisition (SLA). Because of that, I was unsure about getting a workbook without a teacher's manual or a listening CD/Tape. Still I needed something to supplement The New Penguin Russian Course: A Complete Course for Beginners (Penguin Handbooks) and Teach Yourself Russian Complete Course Package (Book ... Read More:

The CDs are a must, along with the book. Without which you are wasting your time IMHO. The dialogs I find are well thought out. The introduction to writing is actually what got me started with Hanzi and I recommend . One of the commentators talks about the translation into colloquial English which is correct. Also the teaching of sounds is not a bad best guess for the standard English speaker. But note if you are not a standard English speaker don't waste too much time, look else where (ideally with a native speaker, or some technicla white paper on tongue ... Read More:
