| The book does a terrible job introducing the beginner to Latvian. It throws words at you in the first chapter like accusative and nominative and genitive and dative, like I am supposed to know what it is talking about. The accompanying CD rushes through the dialogues and does not explain why sounds are not pronounced in some words but are in others. It is very confusing. The book and CD were about a $60.00 investment and I feel like I threw my money away. |

| I was first intrigued by this cassette kit when I read that itwas created to boost babies' linguistic intelligence. I knew thatthere were over 10 different lullabies on that cassette but I never imagined how beautifully they were recorded. Apparently, a dozen professional vocalists were used to record each lullaby in his/her native tongue. | 1. The woman who sings the songs has a lovely voice, but poor enunciation for a beginner's ear (unlike the other "teach me" recordings).
2. The are no translations for the vast majority of the materials, so be ready to spend a lot of time figuring it out yourself. 3. When there are (supposedly) other children on the recording, the voices, including the male children's voices, are faked by the same woman (or maybe with the help of another woman). | As a Spanish speaker I do not consider this tape to be bilingual. The singer does NOT consistently translate words to both languages!
The songs and monologues are mostly in English with a few sentences or words in Spanish scattered here and there. The singer's Spanish pronunciation and accent are barely adequate as is. This tape can be entertaining for some, maybe, but I doubt it can be used as a teaching tool. |

| It's easy to learn from this text and it's organized in a way that's very easy to follow (it's not too difficult to learn Mandarin anyway, since it only uses 4 tones). Unfortunately, some of the language in the book is outdated but the passages are quite humorous and therefore easy to memorize to help you build your confidence in speaking the language. | First, to set the record straight, Japan indeed has changed a lot since this course was issued.
I believe the course was produced in the mid-60's... Language education has changed too... That said, different people learn in different ways, and if you're not a really good "traditional text book" type learner... and have trouble with structure and focus, this course is a godsend.
