| I read The Uglies and could not put it down. It is a great book.
The Pretties annoyed me with the whole doing things to be "bubbly." They used this term all the time. That, and things are "happy making" and "pretty making" and "funny making." They were supposed to be like mindless robots, but this use of language got on my nerves. I loved the Uglies and the description of the sights and sounds Tally experienced in "The Smoke." | I read the book cover-to-cover, and found it pretty easy to get through.
However, an easy read doesn't make for a good read. Throughout the entire novel I got the feeling that the author was trying to make young female readers wish they were rich and famous, and young male readers horny. | One of my favorite picture books of all time. This sweet story is about opening up your heart to new friends even after you've lost all your old friends--it would be great for children who move to a new school or town. The text is a little on the long side for a picture book, but for this story it fits. |

| I have used this book prior to potty training 3 generations of boys in our family. I introduce it about 6 months before I think each child will be ready for training. The kids love the story and the fact that the pictures are anatomically correct! They carry the book with them wherever they go and eventually "read" it to themselves.

I think this book is appropriate for kids, because it has funny stories about kids you don't see every day and kids who do strange but hilarious things. It's even more fun that the author uses himself as a character in the book - the yard teacher. He must have thought the book through really well, because it's full of interesting details. I read all three books in 5 evenings. |
