| This is the first of Sarah Dessen's that I've read, and I'll definitely be reading more of her books in the future. I REALLY liked the style of the book, the way she wrote these characters, and the story here. I mean, this woman knows how to write teens in a way that many authors do not. Every word was just so completely real. | We loved the book and I loved that it offered something that my child would love to read. The story held pretty close to the movie which we didn't see until after he read the book. |

| I honestly believe in my heart that every American woman from about age 25-35 read this book around the same age I did. Either one of her friends told her about it, the school nurse gave it to her, or her mom bought it and said it would explain things.
This book is occassionally banned by school districts due to its discussion of female puberty and religion. I don't remember it being especially new when I was the age of the characters (Blume sets many of her novels in Princeton, I grew up ... Read More: |

| I gave this book two stars instead of one because it won't hurt the child if he/she reads it. But it's definitely not what I had in mind for the first conversation with my 8-year-old daughter about how babies are made, and I'm glad I looked at it at the store before committing.
Problem number 1 is that there is too much emphasis on the description of the sexual intercourse and feelings during it. For this age, I would prefer something focused on reproduction and anatomy. The whole book is just a ... Read More: |

| The last time our grandson came to visit he told us he wanted to read to his grandfather and me. I did not have a book on hand that a second grader could read, so I have bought this to keep on hand for his next visit. Jamie Lee Curtis' books are all entertaining and cleverly illustrated and most appropriate for children and adults to share. |
