On one hand, I did enjoy certain parts of this book, for example "Hate Spinnerbait" is forever lodged in my brain. On the other hand, I couldn't really feel the connection between Remy and Dexter and for some reason throughout the entire book I kept thinking how he deserves better. Not that Remy wasn't a likeably enough character, it's just that he always seemed so sincere and she never had her heart in it.
To sum up: After reading the book, I was left with kind of a blah feeling, but upon ... Read More:

I thought this book was hilarious. I love all of the Dear Dumb Diary books. Jim Benton does a very good job of writing these. He writes them just like a diary. I would never expect a guy to write stories about a girl and her problems. The drawings that are in the book make me laugh. I love how Jamie Kelly "hates" Angeline because she's so beautiful and popular. Jamie wants Angeline to be a brat but she's not so Jamie has to pretend that she is anyway. The entries about the wedding are realistic. I have ... Read More:

I find this book to be inappropriate for the age level listed (ages 4-8). Not only do Ivy and Bean speak very disrespectfully toward and disobey their parents, but, most offensive of all, they take the Lord's name in vain. I have three children ages 4-8. I do not feel they are old enough to recognize they should not imitate the actions and words of Ivy and Bean.

I have a lot of respect for a writer who can take holes, lizards and onions and create an incredible story.

This book was amazing. It held my interest from the very first page. The characters were lovable and interesting (I particularly liked Zero), the plot was fast paced and engaging, the writing style was easy to read and follow. I felt like I was there with the boys digging all those holes.

Once again, kudos to Louis Sacher for creating such a great thought provoking novel out of ... Read More:

The story is good but perhaps a bit boring for children under 7 or 8 years of age. The narrator of the audiobook does a decent job but is not as lively as other narrators I have heard and unfortunately grossly mispronounces the name of one of the three main characters (which, given the number of times she is mentioned, becomes galling).

I have read this countless times since the 4th grade, and it still continues to be one of my favorite books ever. The odd thing is that I remember being severely disappointed to learn this was not a fantasy.

But the real story is stronger, that of a deep friendship that affects a young boy for good and bad.

There are so many levels to this book, and thus it becomes clear why these two kids would create a fantasy world for escaping the challenges of the real world. Ironically, it is the time they spend here ... Read More:

My grandson thoroughly enjoyed this book. He said it made him laugh a lot and he read it all in one gulp and his stomach felt good at the end.
