An avid reader even at a very young age, this is one of the books that lingered in my memory. A very simple tale, but beautifully-written. Twenty years later, I have just put in an order for a new copy as my old copy was lost sometime in my youth.

David Suzuki, this generation's John Muir, introduces children to a vital part of life in the Pacific Northwest, the salmon cycle. In the story, a wise father takes his daughter on a fishing trip, telling her that she will become part of the Salmon Story. Patiently allowing her to observe life and ask questions about what she sees, he gently presents many interesting facts without boring readers. The introduction to First Nations ("Indian") customs is especially effective in presenting this way of life ... Read More:

Books : An Island Scrapbook: Dawn to Dusk on a Barrier Island
I grew up visiting my grandparents on a Georgia barrier island and took the life of an island for granted. But with age comes wisdom and I now see the beauty and fragility of these islands even more. This book has many great drawings . One of my favorites was of the wisps left in the sand by the waving sea oats. Kids and adults will enjoy this immensely.

Chris Gall has written and illustrated this picture book in the greatest of tradition. The story is a classic of the child who invites the fishes of the sea to come home with him and the manner in which this idea plays out is both silly and uses word play to excite children's understanding about how words and ideas interconnect, confuse, and have multiple meanings. I read this book to my Kindergarten class and they could not contain their excitement. They just loved this book and asked immediately for a ... Read More:

If your son or daughter has an attention span as short as my 3-year-old did, this book is a bit lengthy on the amount of words on each page. However, it has absolutely beautiful artwork and it is a good buy if you want your child to learn Tagalog alongside English. There are also bits and pieces of Filipino culture sprinkled in the story, as well.

In summary, it's a good book, but better for children who can sit still long enough for the whole page. (Better suited for 4-5 and up.)

This was my one year old son's first favorite book and the title one of his first spoken phrases. It's colorful and easy to follow. We used it for reading at his first birthday party. It is now used by his Kindemusik teacher. I highly recommend this book.

This book is great for little active hands. Its a Pop-up kind of thing (the moving parts of pop-ups, not the actual 3D stuff) all made of thick card board so its pretty indestructable. That is, except for the cover. I'm not sure what they were thinking. Its a single piece of cardboard, flimsier than cereal box cardboard. I'm not sure why they did that, especially since the reverse of the cover is the first page of the book. The rest of the pages (and back cover) are all thicker than even the sturdiest boardbook. ...
