When I opened the mail I was shocked at how short this book was, 50 pages or so, particularly considering how expensive it was, about $20. I was very pleased with the pictures in the book and the presentation of the information and generally very happy with the book. I just thought the cost of the book versus the number of pages was insane. I felt ripped off. Maybe a rich person wouldn't feel ripped off. But I did.

I tried to use this book to teach fourth graders about weather. I was left more confused than when I started teaching the unit.

As an adolescent, I was an avid reader of the books about Tom Swift Jr. written in the sixties. Tom was an idol, for years my fantasy was to be an inventor, acquire a tropical island and create things that would solve the problems of humanity. I have also read several of the original Tom Swift adventures written in the early twentieth century and this is the second of the latest series that I have read.
Bud Barclay is no longer the fitting companion to Tom in tempting the fates of danger; he is the ... Read More:

Although this book appears to be biographical fiction for kids, the fiction outweighs the history so heavily that I see very little value in it as a history teaching tool. As a story, the plot is moral and enjoyable enough (if a bit trite) and seemed appropriate for a 2nd or 3rd grader just getting into longer chapter books. If you are hoping to learn a lot about the real Wright brothers, though, look elsewhere.

I gave this book to the little girl who lives next door. She had just finished third grade and is a voracious reader. She loved this one! I give her many books but she just raved about this one. She even used it as a book report/special presentation for class. Highly recommended!

My nephew likes this book but it's a little confusing for a five year old.

The book is about how light refracts through a prism to produce all the
colors of the rainbow.

The level of this book is at about a 10 year old level.

Not for children.

I read this to my 6-year-old, and we were both mesmerized. The story is told exceptionally well. First there is some "action," then some history, then more action. Practical details about rockets and space travel will fascinate kids and adults alike. And after reading this book, no one will forget the meaning of the words, "The Eagle has landed" and "That's one small step...." It sounds silly, but I actually got choked up at the climax (moon landing).
This is a great book for any kid interested in the original ... Read More:

I think the story is really neat. Three boys decide to use hypnosis to win the science fair, so they try hypnotise a dog to think he's a cat. The rest is really funny. I recommend this book to a lot of people! After you finish with this book, I recommend you read the second book in the series, "I Was A Third Grade Spy. "

I read this book almost 20 years ago in the first grade and was immediately hooked on natural history, dinosaurs, life sciences, and the like, not to mention storytelling itself. The illustrations are entrancing and the format--the history of life as a play in several acts on a world stage--is enthralling. It's highly informative, too, for a young reader (or even an old one), and it was one of the most memorable and entertaining "educational" books I read as a child.

Now out of college, I have recently repurchased ... Read More:
