Kids finally will get what a "birds eye view" means! The book flows nicely from creating a map of Penny's owner's bedroom...to a larger and larger scale. Leads itself to children being able to create their own maps of their bedroom or classroom...then once they have that down your true cartographers will emerge and challenge themselves on a greater scale.

The "Mystery of the Periodic Table" is that it makes learning fun! My son really likes this book! It keeps you entertained and is much easier to read than a typical old boring chemistry textbook! Highly recommend as a first step in introducing the periodic table to any child!

The soft cover version is very hard to read because the most important part of the illustration (the body part being discussed) is in the center crease. It is hard to see it without flattening the book completely. Also, most pages describe how the body part functions while some pages talk about things you can do to the body part (ears are for washing and drying? hmm, not what I would first think when explaining how we use our ears.)

Otherwise, I like the illustrations and text.

I fell in love with the original "Mad Scientists' Club" when I was a boy. To be able to read this little known "prequel" is great! The story is fun and surprisingly plausible for the most part. The writing is a little choppy at times (which may reveal some editing the author didn't have a part in) but nothing that detracts from enjoying the story. This tale brings me back to when I was a child and life was a lot more innocent and fun! Enjoy this book as a family!

A good description of how a road is made. This book is attractive with simple but accurate illustrations, and charming rhymes with "sound" words. I appreciated that there are a few female workers in the pictures. I bought it for a 3 year old, but I think it is too young for her - it will go to the younger one who is not yet two who will enjoy it for some time to come. Reading level may be 4-8, but appropriate age is younger.

The idea is that a news reporter is visiting a nation founded by Oregon, Washington, and northern California. The nation is a green, back to nature, dream. Solar power, deer hunting, no paint and few plastics, everything needs to be stable, friendly to nature. And you better be happy. BE HAPPY!
The government seems to be totalitarian state run by women with some men. They keep the USA out by threatening to explode nuclear mines in our major cities and having lots and lots of surface to air missiles. The main character ... Read More:

"Suddenly the whole bus rose into the air. We felt cool and heavy. We were turning into water!" -- From the book

In case you're not familiar with Scholastic series of Magic School Bus books, they are books which are based on the animated TV series--which are, incindentally, based on the ORIGINAL books written by Joanna Cole and illustrated by Bruce Degen. (Whew!)

In The Magic School Bus: Wet All Over, Ms. Frizzle, an unusual teacher, and her class go on an exciting and bizarre field trip (as usual!). This time, ... Read More:

When I opened the mail I was shocked at how short this book was, 50 pages or so, particularly considering how expensive it was, about $20. I was very pleased with the pictures in the book and the presentation of the information and generally very happy with the book. I just thought the cost of the book versus the number of pages was insane. I felt ripped off. Maybe a rich person wouldn't feel ripped off. But I did.
