I liked the facts about Mount Everest woven into the story, I feel like you would finish this book and know a little bit more about this area of the world. Great for kids of all ages. | I bought this book recently to read to my four year old son. Religious relatives have begun inundating him with the magical "Because God made it that way," explanations, so I definitely felt it was time to introduce the concept of evolution.
As other reviewers have mentioned, the illustrations are boring, and completely lacking in color (they're all bluish/grayish). The other major issue I had with this book was the convoluted attempt at introducing cell replication. The term ... Read More: |

| Teaches about prisms and rainbows, but most importantly the plot is interesting and fun. Nice hands-on project at the end to make your own prism using a plastic cup, water, and flashlight. Highly recommended book. Another excellent book by Kane Press. |

| take off with Basil to the utopia of Helios, where your friend, the girl genius, gives you a ride on her pet pteranodon and demonstrates physics based on precise musical melodies. A great book to inspire reluctant readers to read on...and reluctant writers to create.
This book is the first in what is so far a series of two. I hope Mr Miller doesn't take too long with a next installment. |

| This is a brilliant book. I purchased it when my 2.5 year old son was refusing to sleep to try to explain to him that everyone sleeps, and why everyone sleeps. I could relate the facts in the book to things he understood, including when Caroline (a character in the book) goes to sleep and how she gets cranky when she doesn't get her nap. Thereafter he would say he needed his sleep so that he wasnt cranky like Caroline! He loves reading the book before nap and bed time - and the last few pages about drifting off to sleep ... | I was familiar with the original series my own father read, so I got the first of these new titles when they started coming out. My then 8 and now 9 year old son enjoys listening to them as a read aloud. He reads well and might find the reading level a little easy compared to what he reads himself, but its fun. It strikes me to be a tad on the conservative side: the bad guys are often an anti-tech "environmentalist" group, and the role of Tom's sister is only given some credit in this most recent novel. |
