This book talks about a boy named Tim Meeker who always likes his brother until now. It is approaching the Revolutionary War and Tim's father is a Loyalist, but Tim's brother, Sam, is a Patriot. His brother goes to fight for the Americans but Tim wants to join also. Tim is torn between beliefs. But surprising events led up to the death of Sam Meeker. I really liked this book. | I give this book an okay because it was good but not great. i think the ather could of gave a bit more detail ,but not a whole lot. The auther could of gave a little more back round agout the family and Timothy. Timothy I could understand the aurther wanting him to be a mystery ,but he coud of gave a little more back round. Besides these comentets about the Cay I think the rest of the story was Fantastic. The story stayed to the story and the emotion between the chariters was great. |

| Review: These books are my comfort books. In fact, all of the Tamora Pierce books from the Tortall series' are in that category. This is the first of Pierce's quartets ever published, starting with Alanna: The First Adventure. They all have a very strong female protagonist, who takes her destiny head-on and finds a way to train as a knight, even though such a thing is only for boys and men. | What I specifically like about this book is the diagram of the brig and
the discussion of sailing lore. In this same age Herman Melville wrote the classic Moby Dick: After the story by Herman Melvill (Classics in colour) which has a lot of whaling trivia, but it is clear to see that the sea wasn't a place for an 13 year old girl, yet cabin boys of that age were common. | My four year old son is in love with this chapter series! A friend suggested it to us since he seemed ready for a more advanced reading material at bedtime. My husband reads him a chapter every night...sometimes more because they don't want to stop. It's become a great tradition for them, and something they both look forward to. We love that there are so many in the collection! Start with number 1 and just continue. :) |

| First off, let me clarify in my personal response that I've never been a fan of the historical fiction genre. Historical fiction books bore me, and they never seem to contain the excitement found in contemporary fiction. Sarah, Plain and Tall, while more character-centric than most historical fiction books, still just didn't catch my interest. I was just glad that unlike many historical fiction books, this one actually didn't shove random historical facts down the readers' throats in massive clumps--the historical details were there, but very subtle.
