| I picked this one up at Powell's Books (Sorry, Amazon -- nothing personal!) because I liked The House of Scorpion, which I read earlier this year, and when I went to look for other books by the same author, I found one about trolls. And Vikings. How could you go wrong with that?

She is chosen to drive stagecoaches and work at a barn. The main characters in this story are: Charlotte, Hayward, Mr. Millshark, Mr. Ebeneezer Vern and Mrs. Boyle. | "Christmas In The Trenches" is a piece of our history I've long been aware of. I have been shocked to learn how our current generation has no idea of this event. I would hope this book/cd will become an active lesson presented in our educational system again.

| I work with children in grades K - 6. There are a few questions in this collection from which teachers and parents could have thoughtful, meaningful conversations. Far too many, however, are disturbing. I would suggest another questions book, as they are a wonderful way to build connections with children and give them practice with higher level thinking and debate. If you choose this one , it should be as an adult tool used selectively, rather than a fun volume to add to a child's bookshelf. |

| It's almost criminal that this book is so popular. Anyone who is a true admirer of Dickens' work would toss his or her copy in the trash as I did mine. Admittedly, it's one of his shorter works. I believe this is why it's so widely read in schools (and, yes, I can understand a sentimental attachment on the part of otherwise intelligent readers who read the book at a young age).
