| This was my first Hornblower book after a recommendation from a friend. Could not put this book down especially after the mutiny.
The details of life in the English navy in the 18th century and then in London are richly told with details such as the "press gang" that goes out rounding up sailors for His Majesty's ships, the slim pickings of naval officers during the dreaded peacetime, the caste system of well healed officers playing whist to keep themselves in food and housing. | I think I had this Asterix comic book, but with another title which is "Asterix Conquers America" but I lost it, that's why I bought it again. As the rest of Uderzo & Goscinny's masterpieces, this adventure has the same fun loaded atmosphere but being taken by our friends to the New World ! ! ! | My sister has owned this book for 5 years, but I just got around to reading it. It is SUCH a good book! It was fascinating to be able to peek into the ancient Egyptian culture. The drama and the plot are SO GOOD! I was disappointed when I finished the book...I could've started it over again right then and there! If you are looking for a good book to read...this is it!!! |

| This delightful novel has rekindled my desire to read or re-read the classics. I picked it up for no particular reason other than I had never read Hugo. I didn't expect much: My experience with the classics in high school and college was that they are dull and not worthy of modern reading. But, to my pleasant surprise, I discovered a fascinating book that is rich in wonderful characters and vivid descriptions of 13th century Paris. | I started reading this series to my 4 year old son and recommend it to anyone who wants to broaden their kids adventure geography.The research guides accompanying many of them are very informative and concise...rather they are a must have.
