In which the Baudelaires, in my second-favorite book so far, grow up and grow closer together in genuine love, in the face of even more unfortunate events that they find themselves embroiled in. So much have they grown that the appearance of Mr. Poe is not a source of rejoicing or relief, but a barely considered event out of the center of their thoughts and lives.

This was the first Carl Hiaasen book I read, so perhaps starting with one of his books geared towards young people was an odd choice. I enjoyed this book immensely, and often laughed out loud while reading it.

Noah Underwood's father often does wacky things because of his passionate concern for the environment and the human and animal inhabitants of Florida. When he discovers that the local floating casino is dumping raw sewage into local waters he goes to far in his protests and lands himself ... Read More:

Books : The Subtle Knife (His Dark Materials, Book 2)
The second book in the His Dark Materials series still has you clamoring for more, though the ending leaves the reader more anxious and weary, than the first book. The amount of religious symbolism intertwined with plot devices is heightened and some of the choices that Pullman makes from a writer's perspective works well. There were other choices that he has made, which leaves me to wonder if the plot is taking control of him, rather than the author controlling the plot.

The beginning you meet Will, a boy ... Read More:

My 5- and 7-year-old boys LOVED this story! Lots of great mischief. I never knew Roald Dahl beyond "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," and "James and the Giant Peach." "The Twits" is great for younger audiences. I can't wait to get more of his books.

"The Giant Jam Sandwich" is great for any kid with a vivid imagination its laid out in such a way that it flows like honey or in the case of this book STRAWBERRY JAM! I couldn't get into this series. It took me forever to read the entire trilogy because I just couldn't engage myself with it. I read the three books a couple of pages at a time with large breaks in between. I finished it out of pure stubborness.

Its not that the books were bad. Because the idea behind them was quite interesting.

My problem was that I didn't like any of the characters. The only one I vaguely liked was Will and even then... after two books, I felt like I didn't know him any better ... Read More:

Books : Cut
While this is a fictional account of self-harm, I felt that it was a fair portrayal of the main character who is attempting to deal with familial issues the best way she knows how. I have read horrendous books that were intended to have the same effect that this story had...and from my reading (so far) this story is the closest that I have found to reality. Yes, Callie has problems...Yes, she hurts herself... but she is not hollow. She is just a normal teenage girl who doesn't know how to cope with the emotions that she is feeling. ... Read More:
