| The last time our grandson came to visit he told us he wanted to read to his grandfather and me. I did not have a book on hand that a second grader could read, so I have bought this to keep on hand for his next visit. Jamie Lee Curtis' books are all entertaining and cleverly illustrated and most appropriate for children and adults to share. |

| Another spooky tale, but with more spook, this book is the story of a little boy who discovers the nefarious plan of a group of witches to finally rid the world of children once and for all. It might be a little much for younger children, but older ones will likely enjoy the creepy undertone.

| I bought a classroom set of this book and just finished reading it with my 3rd and 4th grade class. When I went to collect the books, half of the class asked me if they could buy the book from me. That has never happened to me as a teacher before. It is a nice, short book with many avenues for discussion and thought, a great way to get kids hooked on reading. |

I have a lot of respect for a writer who can take holes, lizards and onions and create an incredible story. This book was amazing. It held my interest from the very first page. The characters were lovable and interesting (I particularly liked Zero), the plot was fast paced and engaging, the writing style was easy to read and follow. | The story is good but perhaps a bit boring for children under 7 or 8 years of age. The narrator of the audiobook does a decent job but is not as lively as other narrators I have heard and unfortunately grossly mispronounces the name of one of the three main characters (which, given the number of times she is mentioned, becomes galling). |

| I have read this countless times since the 4th grade, and it still continues to be one of my favorite books ever. The odd thing is that I remember being severely disappointed to learn this was not a fantasy.
But the real story is stronger, that of a deep friendship that affects a young boy for good and bad. | The Great Brain is one of the best all time books for boys ever written. In my humble opinion of course. The prose is engaging capturing the attention. The stories are exciting and compelling. The chapters are just the right length. And it has all the elements that young boys love from Cowboys and Indians to cops and robbers. What more could you ask for?

| I'll let you read other reviews to decide if you want to try the book. This review is specifically in reference to the audio book, which is read by actor Chad Lowe. My daughters and I listen to audio books daily, and we've listened to some truly gifted readers. The trouble with Hoot is that Chad Lowe reads with the skill that I expect from a non-professional. He brings absolutely nothing extra to the performance of the book. Very disappointing. |
