Not good for reading to child before bedtime. Not enough words, story, substance. We were bored with it after one reading. My 2yr son isn't old enough to read yet, but when he is, I am guessing he will read it once and then be bored with it again.

I find it amazing that there are reviewers on here that are 'appalled' at the way the kids in this story treat each other and 'swear'. I am a fifth grade teacher, and I can tell you, this is reality people. Not only have I been called a 'b..tch' to my face, I've heard other kids call teachers this and worse. I've seen kids trying to fit in by going along with the ring leader of the class, or singling out the weakest link in order to show their power. As for no resolution; this isn't a Disney ... I purchased this book as part of The Enchanted Collection (boxed set). I'd never heard of The Two Princesses of Bamarre, but after reading all the books in the collection, I think I can say it's my favourite of the three.

Unlike Ella Enchanted and Fairest, The Two Princesses of Bamarre isn't based on a well-known fairytale. Perhaps this is why the plot seemed stronger: the author wasn't confined to a certain canon. The adventure that Addie sets out upon after her sister is stricken with the Grey ... Read More:

This book was okay. It had a lot of interesting parts, but way more boring parts. It has a lot of interesting parts like when Mr. Maxwell gave Mark a permission slip to go to something called A Week In The Woods. I wondered what was going to happen to Mark in A Week In The Woods. The boring part is about 100 pages long. That is why it is more boring than good. It is really boring when Mark escapes from Mr. Maxwell's truck and then Mr. Maxwell is looking for Mark, and then Mark is trying to run away from Mr. Maxwell, ... Read More:

I thought it was really good. I love how these books are short, but get you really into the story. The author definitely doesn't fill the pages with useless boring information. The books are easy fast reads and I love how every person in the book is there for a reason. The book reminded me of the Mary-kate and Ashley movie that I watched when I was little called "How the West Was Fun" because it was also about a ranch and treasure too.

This book must be popular with people who enjoy Hollywood blockbusters, because the plot is entirely predictable and the characters are cardboard cutouts.

I kept reading it to see what would happen next, but was disappointed that so much of the story sounds like a grade-B horror/adventure flick from the 1950s.

The writing is sloppy, too. For example, the lead character is Alex, a 15-year-old high school boy who's been wearing glasses since he was 10. Early in the book, he steps on his glasses and smashes them to smithereens. ... Read More:

I remember trying to read the book as a kid, and could not finish it for lack of interest! As an adult, this was a wonderful, magical, story! I enjoyed it even more than the Lion Witch and Wardrobe!!

They don't seem to require reading classic literature in the schools any more, so I decided to build a library for my 12-year old granddaughter. She has read them all, including this one, so it wasn't a bad idea. Now, if I could just get her to call her old grandfather more often....

My son has found he likes adventure books. DJ MacHale is one of his top authors. The pendragon series takes him to other earths and shows him different ways of life. I love how this series brings many cultures together to work as one, with out pointing out they are different.

The girls and I loved listening to this Nancy Drew. It takes me back to my youth and the girls are loving the "old time" stories.
