While I don't think this is nearly at the same level as the classic "Frindle", Clements once again makes a worthy story of kids doing something big, though it does come off as rather preachy.

We have a little girl who loves writing. So she starts a school newspaper that gets a little out of hand when she prints something controversial that nearly costs the supporting teacher his job.

It's a meaningful, touching, and often hilarious story about what kids can do and whether ... Read More:

I love the Laura books, I can remember my mother reading them to me when I was young. Since then, I've read then again and it never ceases to delight me.
My only complaint though, is that the illistrations are pathetic. They don't even look real, so I had a hard time seeing Laura as a real person. For me, when I see lifelike drawings, it really makes get in touch with their character. The drawer, Garth Williams, is someone I wouldn't want to be doing my book! I like the illistrations for The Caroline ... Read More:

Not good for reading to child before bedtime. Not enough words, story, substance. We were bored with it after one reading. My 2yr son isn't old enough to read yet, but when he is, I am guessing he will read it once and then be bored with it again.

The Hand of the Goddess is the second book in the Song of the Lioness series by Tamora Pierce. I would recommend reading them in order. Even though the book touches on some events in the previous book, there is just not enough detail book of those events to skip them. Many of them are integral in seeing the development of Alanna "Alan" over the years.

This book follows Alanna in her teen years while she is learning to be a squire and then a knight. She is involved in a war and is afraid of her upcoming ... Read More:

In which the children almost save Josephine on Lake Lachrymose, but are actually fortunate enough to unmask Count Olaf just in time.

This is the final book in the series used as the basis for the movie (Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (Widescreen Edition)), which I think did a good job of capturing the characters and the feel (the movie narration especially capturing the ironic tone of the author) of the first three books in the series. The plot changes seem necessary to create a cinematic story ... Read More:
