| Lois Lowry provides a little look into a fantasy world. No special powers, luckily, but it is an imaginary land with imaginary people. They could exist though, people could be like that... As the book opens our special girl is somewhat even luck to be alive.. Usually when a child is born with a disfigurement they are sent out to die, but Kira, now a teenager was luckily spared. | I give this book an okay because it was good but not great. i think the ather could of gave a bit more detail ,but not a whole lot. The auther could of gave a little more back round agout the family and Timothy. Timothy I could understand the aurther wanting him to be a mystery ,but he coud of gave a little more back round. Besides these comentets about the Cay I think the rest of the story was Fantastic. The story stayed to the story and the emotion between the chariters was great. |

| Review: These books are my comfort books. In fact, all of the Tamora Pierce books from the Tortall series' are in that category. This is the first of Pierce's quartets ever published, starting with Alanna: The First Adventure. They all have a very strong female protagonist, who takes her destiny head-on and finds a way to train as a knight, even though such a thing is only for boys and men. She is a lovable, and tough character, who is very full of honor, pride, and hard work/determination. She goes through her moments ... Read More: |

| While I absolutely LOVE (and always have) the beginning of the book, even the middle, detailing all of Zinkoff's various childish misadventures, I've always failed to understand how that's all resolved in the end. Perhaps 'resolved' is the wrong word, after all, we wouldn't all want our favorite Loser to turn into someone else entirely. More accurately, then, it just didn't feel like an ending. | Not good for reading to child before bedtime. Not enough words, story, substance. We were bored with it after one reading. My 2yr son isn't old enough to read yet, but when he is, I am guessing he will read it once and then be bored with it again. |

| This is one of those luminous children's books that should inform every child'd upbringing. If only it did. The illustrations are gorgeous, the message is whimsical and child-centered, the pleasure for adults is profound. |

| In which the Baudelaires have the best adventure yet, with a plot twist that caught my breath and almost put a tear in my eye. These are books with children as the main characters, but aren't "just" kids books.

| A friend loaned me her copies of this series. I enjoyed them so much I wanted my children to be able to read them, but I was apprehensive about having them read her autographed copies, and they weren't available at our local library. I was so delighted to find them at amazon.com and at such a great price I just couldn't pass them up. This is one of those true classics, great for both kids and adults. Enjoy! |
