This was my very first Nancy Drew book. Yep, and I a little older than what would be considered young adult these days! Tee Hee! I am hooked. I will tell you I was a little afraid of starting with Book 7, but I didn't feel left out at all. The author made it possible for me to catch up with Nancy, her family and her friends. I even got to meet the new "guy". I love stories about diaries, add in a mystery, a fire, some great adventures and a romantic interest, and I was extremely happy. Now, I will ... Read More:

Much to my surprise, this was every bit as good as the first one. The interweaving of the girls' mothers as a parallel Sisterhood was very effectively done, and never more so than when the Traveling Pants almost blurred the distinction between the two groups (I won't say more so as to keep from spoiling a very good scene). Bridget's rediscovery of her mother and reconstruction of herself is the best and most emotionally powerful of the story threads, although all are generally well-done.

Books : Just So Stories (Classic Literature With Classical Music. Children's Favorites)
I loved Just So Stories as a child, and the stories are - for the most part - still really wonderful. Be aware if you are buying this for someone, however, that some of the stories are less than flattering to minorities and one of the stories does use the word "nigger," so this is definitely a book for someone who is old enough to talk to about language and what's appropriate and so on.

This charming little book takes a comfortable character that is at once independent and someone to whom kids can relate through good ol' fashioned anthromorphing. The stories are short, adorable, and well-crafted, and Lobel's illustrations are of course his best.

MISTY OF CHINCOTEAGUE is one of my favorite horse books! Henry writes with such an understanding of the bond between Misty and her human family. Funny, heartbreaking and full of horses. A perfect read!

I was looking forward to receiving this book, following rave reviews and awards. But both I and my twin nearly-five-year-olds have been very much disappointed, and are unlikely to finish the second book (or even start the third) in this three-volume compilation.

While the theme and content (a quest to rescue a baby dragon, subsequent adventures with dragon) was extremely appealing given this audience's passions, the poor execution of this story neutered the otherwise promising tale.

The first person ... Read More:

We spent money on an item that we couldn't use. It was not clear that this was a radio play based on the book. Had we known that, we wouldn't have ordered.
