| Byron Barton has done an excellent job of re-telling the popular children's story. My granddaughter loved the bold colors and pictures. She first discoverd the book at our library and was beside herself when we had to return it, so I bought a copy. She was so excited, she has now memorized the story. This book is excellent for all pre-schoolers and pre-readers. |

| My 4 year old absolutely loves this book (and so do I). He likes to trace his fingers around the map included at the front of the book as I read about Henry's journey. The fact that this bear is modeled after Thoreau is very endearing. |

| I've never heard the name Berlioz before reading this book. Oh well, that's no big deal. Berlioz proves to be a likeable guy, even though he doesn't really do anything. He doesn't come up with a great plan to save the day or anything. In fact, he CAUSES the conflict of the story. You see, he's all worried about the performance he and his band have to give and he's not paying attention to the road. He's lucky he doesn't run a stop sign and get hit by a train. | This has been one of those books that just sort of sat on the shelf and the kids looked at it. But now Mr. Big Reader First Grader is reading everything he can get his hands on to his younger brother, so it got my attention.
First off, and this is not the reason for the two star rating, the vocabulary is adult, the language is very colloquial, and it is DIFFICULT for little readers. | When Sister surprisingly wins the school spelling bee, Papa takes over and gets overly excited. When Sister has to spell "vicarious" then that's when Papa realizes that he is doing that very thing with Sister. What a great lesson for parents reading the story, along with helping children learn to read rather large words. My little one picked this one out himself and started reading it.
