What a wonderful way to spend quality time with your beginning reader -- or for the independent reader to have fun reading, with both the child and grandparent (in my case) sharing in lots of humour.

This is the second book I bought for my daughter as she sees Corduroy on tivo and she asked me for the books. It's a nice story about a night time escape of Cordoroy in order to find a gift for Lisa's birthday.
It's perfect before going to sleep as it's short but has a good plot. It's one of the books I read and reread to my daughter as she always asks me. She likes very much the idea of the bear going alone and then the happy end. The illustration are also nice.

Small Bear (soon to be renamed as Brother Bear) wakes up one day and finds out his bed is too small for him!

So he and his dad go out to make a new bed. And when he gets home, his old bed is given to his new baby sister.

There was no discussion with Small Bear beforehand that he was going to have a new baby sister. There's no discussion in the book about how a baby might affect your life, either for good or bad.

This is not how most people raise children today, ... Read More:

My kids have gone nuts for commercial toy crazes, at times--what kids haven't? This book teaches a great lesson about how this sort of thing can backfire. It gives parents a way to introduce the idea to commercially-pressured kids that maybe it isn't such a great idea to jump on board the latest toy craze bandwagon and rush out to buy all sorts of useless overpriced toys. This a fine addition to the Berenstain Bears line of books.

Mark Andersen leads quite a lonely existence in the Alaskan wilderness, where he lives with his mother and father. Things wouldn't be so lonely if his older brother was still around, but since his death, Mark has been devoid of contact with anyone even close in age to him. Due in large part to the fact that he's the smallest boy at school - at least for his age - and risks injury if he plays with the stronger boys, so he keeps to himself. That is, until he discovers a friend named Ben. Ben isn't your average ... Read More:

Our young daughter asks us to read this book on a daily basis. So, although this book has been around for decades, it seems to transcend time.

There is something so warm and comforting about the illustrations and the gentle, fun dialog. Somehow the pictures give a sense of stability and safety. It is a brilliant marriage of text and illustration.

The understanding and humor that passes between the three generations speaks to the intricacy of relationships and the intelligence that young children possess. ... Read More:
