| Garth Nix has captured the attention of my sons and made reading something they actually want to do. I catch my ten year old hiding under his covers at night with a book-light to finish these books. Any book that captures the attention of boys in this video game age is my hero. |

| Whilst working on my dissertation I prefer reading something highly distracting. Last year I chose Philip Pullmann's Dark Materials. This year my eye fell on Lemony Snicket's peculiar narration of the unfortunate Baudelaire children. I hesitate to recommend it to my 13-year old goldchild who might doubt his godmothers mental state or taste for literature. I am, however, highly entertained. Innovative, good English, funny, ... and I certainly want to know how it all ends; hopefully less unfortunate...! :o) |

and misplace the scissors? So who is taking these things? Wee people or pack rats maybe? The story is the edge a fantasy and the hope of little girls to find real people the size of dolls. | Yes, these are kids books, but my wife and my son, both older and more mature than the target audience, have already read (that is to say devoured, in Mark's case, finishing the 13-book series in 1 week) and recommended the books, and the movie (Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (Widescreen Edition)) introducing the characters invites further curiosity about the books.

| I tutor/consult home school families. One 7th grader has had difficulty focusing on reading due to a reading disability. I purchased the dvd recording of the Redwall book to introduce him to a way to follow the book while listening to the dvd. He loves it! It is no longer a struggle for his mom to get him to read for the first time in his life. He is able to read, but he has always hated it until now.
