| This is a fun tale featuring a young mountain girl, Miri, forced to undergo Princess training as a potential bride to the prince. The only thing I didn't like about the book was the title, everything else was great. The characters were all complex and believable and the pacing was first rate. I couldn't put the book down and was sad when it ended. |

| This is one of my favorites of Ms. Funk's works. She brings the tone of severity down a notch for a fantasy that is adorable and kid-friendly, but still containing all the right ingredients for one exciting story. Maybe it's a little cliche, but it's the classic story we all like: nice dragons fighting against evil monsters with great, quirky characters and mystery and intrigue. Funk even goes a little high fantasy with good ol' fashioned prophecies and ideas.

| The Artemis Fowl adventures are clever, easy reads.
The stories are fun, the characters engaging. There is lots of magic and adventure. This book is pretty similar to the others in the series. It would be helpful to read some of the earlier books first. |

| I am a high school English teacher who values the classics. I am not a book "snob," but I do get bored with predictable serialized novels. I picked this book up at a used book store because a student had mentioned the author, and I was curious. Now, I am HOOKED on Discworld! The writing, unlike many "mass market paperbacks" is clever, hysterically funny, full of literary techniques, and absolutely addictive. | First, let me re-acknowledge that Maguire is not for everyone. This book continues that trend.
The overall concept sounds fairly airy and fun but at its heart, it's a lot darker than you might imagine. There are two story threads going on throughout the novel and each one is very intriguing. | Yes, there are similarities between the Book of Three and the Lord of the Rings: Both feature a wizard, a ranger type figure, a bad guy in a mask and a strange little creature who slithers around talking about eating. If you read enough fantasy you'll see these type of characters turn up again and again, and you'll often be able to draw comparisons with Tolkien. | As someone who read Cassandra Clare's Draco Trilogy (DT) fan fiction a very long time ago, I remember feeling underwhelmed after reading "City of Bones" because a great deal of the characterization of Jace and Clary came from the DT.
