| Really poor book. There have to be a number of better books about Ireland than this one. The irish alphabet has little or no imagination, with some specific examples from the book that seem especially odd.

It is far better that children understand sooner, rather than later, that all subjects are related, i.e., mathematics, science, religion, politics, literature, history.... | We're home schoolers, and my daughter and I used this book as part of her fifth-grade ancient history curriculum. The text is informative and interesting -- never dry. There are plenty of illustrations, pictures, and maps to catch the sometimes wandering attentions of children. The best part, though, is that at the end of the chapters are questions, "Ideas to Think About," and project ideas. | This book is a waste of money and I cringe to think of the trees that lost their lives so that it could be published. I am a MS & HS German teacher and I was hoping to be able to use this book in my introductory classes, but it's too juvenile and devoid of any real information even for them! I spent the money and was so disappointed I tried donating it to the library of a local school and even the librarian didn't want it! Don't bother with this one. | I think this is a good beginning to a complex battle. Sears is a prominent historian who has detailed the planning, strategy, and actual battle. Due to its short length, I think Eisenhower or Toland's book better details the actual battle. However this a good book to start with and Sears gives the basic on what happened in this month long battle. Hitler gambled and lost, and his regime came to an early end due to this roll of the dice.
