| My first impression was that Gladwell's latest book has a price:weight ratio significantly pricier than any recent "sure-to-become" NYT best seller. My genetic frugality was overcome by the desire to read it and I plucked out my cash ... proving, at minimum, that Malcolm does understand capitalism for starters. I was betting that "Outliers" was going to be cocktail party discussion fodder, not to be missed.

| First of all has no one noticed this book is a poorly written version of Hamlet almost literally?! I got a feeling it was quite a bit like hamlet when Edgar ran off into the woods but though "No he wouldn't just totally rip the plot off of Shakespear, that would be insane." All the major plot lines in the book are mirror images of Hamlet. Man kills brother (with poison) Man gets with brothers wife, Son runs away into woods to plot revenge, Large dramatic event, everyone is dead, literally or emotionally.

| While I agree with some of the renewable energy issue, as an American, I have little trust of an individual that sees taking our personal liberties away for a day, see China for a Day chapter. This in an effort to "protect us" from ourselves. The last thing I need is the government, who can't even balance their own check book, tell me how to live or take my freedoms away for a day so they can push some agenda. | I would highly recommend this book to everyone. I looked forward to the release of this book with great anticipation and began reading it as soon as I received my copy. This book gives great detail about Jackson's ancestry and early life of hardship; including the loss of everyone close to him. Meacham does a wonderful job telling the story of how Jackson improved himself by studying law, his rough journey west to Tennessee, his difficulties of life on the frontier in the late 18th and early 19th century, his military career, and of course his presidency, ... | I thought the book was well written and very informative however; it left me feeling depressed and thankful for my life. It doesn't seem that Warren Buffett is really all THAT happy. He has many close friends and family but how close does he let them get? And the jab that is taken at his granddaughter is equally sad. If those children were adopted by Peter they are no longer step children but actual children. | When I first started reading this, I was going to give it only two stars. The first seven stories were very slow for me to get through. They were not really scary or even interesting in the way King can be interesting in a non-horror fiction story as in Different Seasons. Also, I feel the first seven would have been fine if they had been written by a first published writer. King is a seasoned professional so therefore I was expecting more. My expectations weren't high to begin with. I do think the editor should have done his job much better when putting together this book.
