| The story of a 'frightful little girl', whose point of view changes as she discovers the secrets of her new surroundings.
A well-written story at times, but it definitely had its draggy moments. It seemed to promise more than it delivered(I expected more of a fantasy tale, along the lines of 'The Chronicles of Narnia'.) | First off, let me clarify in my personal response that I've never been a fan of the historical fiction genre. Historical fiction books bore me, and they never seem to contain the excitement found in contemporary fiction. Sarah, Plain and Tall, while more character-centric than most historical fiction books, still just didn't catch my interest. | I believe that a narrator can really make an audio book and Flo Gibson does such a fabulous job of the voices of the characters in "The Wind in the Willows". This is one of my son's all time favorite books and audio books. I highly recommend it. |

| Don't we all drop those little things
and misplace the scissors? So who is taking these things? Wee people or pack rats maybe? The story is the edge a fantasy and the hope of little girls to find real people the size of dolls. We are all hoping that the mean old rat catchers of the world come up dry of little people! The writing is very good and the story gets you going. | This book continues to delight children many, many years after it was first published. As a child growing up it wasmy favorite book. Being a teacher I have introduced countless children to the antics of Caddie and her brothers. Recently I gave a copy to my nine year old granddaughter who usually walks around with some electronic gadget. Once she began reading she was hooked and finished the book in one weekend. | I am the mother of a two children, ages seven and five. We have read and reread nearly all of Roald Dahl's children,s stories. In general, I love this author. His stories are entertaining, even magical, and so beautifully written. When reading Dahl, I am always aware that my children are exposed to high quality literature with a richness of vocabulary and ideas. | I'd never read this book, so when I found it among the kids' books, I decided to give it a shot. And yes, I feel guilty for not having read it to my kids when they were small. Not to worry--I read to them a lot, just not this one, possibly because I wasn't familiar with it myself.

| They don't seem to require reading classic literature in the schools any more, so I decided to build a library for my 12-year old granddaughter. She has read them all, including this one, so it wasn't a bad idea. Now, if I could just get her to call her old grandfather more often.... |
