| I loved Just So Stories as a child, and the stories are - for the most part - still really wonderful. Be aware if you are buying this for someone, however, that some of the stories are less than flattering to minorities and one of the stories does use the word "nigger," so this is definitely a book for someone who is old enough to talk to about language and what's appropriate and so on. |

| I chose this book for my 8 year old's School Fall Book Report because it had all the hooks that would typically grab the little guy who's a voracious reader AND (let's not forget the grownups that partake of reading to our children) it was going to be fun for me too! | Life in the 1800's in the woods sure is different than it is here. I bet if that family ever came here they would be amazed. Heck, if I ever had to shoot guns or collect sap from trees I would fall asleep during it. Pa is my favorite character. He goes into town to get supplies and hunts at night what about those stories? My favorite part is when Pa is alone in the woods at night and he thinks he sees a bear but it is really a tree. | The fisrt of the Alex Rider series, and in my opinion the best book. Its the only Alex Rider book that as a back ground story, Alex Uncle is killed and we learn how his housekeeper raises him. Its set in the Cornish tin minesAlex makes a great agent. The book is 10 times better than the film. I will read the whole Anthony Horowitz Alex Rider series now. |

| My two sons (5-year old and 4-year old) have enjoyed this book for a couple years now. They imagine themselves as "little bears" and enjoy adding their own imagination to the book's different stories.
I really liked the "Birthday Soup" chapter best and have used it to teach my sons that no matter how little you have, you always have enough to share. The book is a classic and you can add it to your storybook collection with Amazon's 4-for-3 special offer. I suggest you pick up "Little Bear's Friend" (see my review), too. |

| Despite the idyllic cover, this is not a heartwarming story for kids. I love survival stories, and this is easily one of the more grueling ones I've read, even as an adult. A whole town starving and freezing, and freezing and starving. Apart from one act of courage (and luck), there's not much to take away from this tale except that freezing and starving is a hard way to go, and that the social safety nets that we take for granted are relatively recent creations.
