| I remember loving these stories when I was a kid. I decided to purchase a collection to re-read, and with my nephews coming for a visit, thought it would be perfect read-aloud material. I received the book a few days before their arrival, looked at the Introduction, and sent it back the next day. I was saddened, but not surprised to see political correctness creeping into even these classics. | Is there *anyone* on the planet who doesn't like Beverly Cleary's books and the wonderful characters she created?
Beezus and Ramona (along with Henry Huggins and the rest of the gang on Klikitak Street) were part of my childhood. 40 years later, they were just as appealing to my own son. And don't tell anyone -- although we bought these audiobooks when he was about 8, at 12 he still likes to put these on ocassionally and listen. Why? | My kids are 6 and 7 and very discerning about the readers voice, the story line, the adjectives used, etc. They both were entranced with these stories. I recommend them. |

| An incredibly powerful book. It's softly written, but beautiful and dreamy in that writing. A girl experiences a changing summer after a local girl is hit by a car and dies. This leads her to observe life differently and appreciate its ups and downs.
