Books : Literature-Based Reading Activities (3rd Edition)
Out of the KAGILIAN education books I've bought in the past decade or so, this one is so practical. The examples given are useful for almost any age and are broken down in 3 categories (pre-reading, during reading, post-reading). This book has really good ideas.

As a classroom teacher of all levels (honors, gifted, and Advanced Placement Language and Literature courses during the past thirty three years, I feel this book was a disappointment. Its title belies its contents. There was nothing new and inspirational for students that do not at least introduce an innovative new concept. I have been ordering from Amazon and keeping abreast with classroom texts for more than twenty years. I wasted my funds on this one.

The one star that I award this book comes from its definitions of what good response and literature is. It also has a nice chapter with a list of the award winning books every year since the awards were created. The reason the other four are lacking is because the book falls short in some areas.

I feel this book could use a bit more depth. While it explains what each type of book is quite well, it doesn't go into enough depth about how to actually teach the books. I understand that this ... Read More:

Books : J. K. Rowling: The Wizard Behind Harry Potter
I love it because it has something to do with Harry Potter & I'm fascinated with the life of JK Rowling -BUT I don't trust that the information is 100 percent correct. How can I when on page 7 it claims that owls run the bank in the Harry Potter world? Obviously, this author hasn't paid close attention to the Harry Potter books. GOBLINS RUN THE BANK. Who can read the books and not know that?!

Susan Hall defines literary devices clearly and gives examples. The real power of this book however, is the resources listed and the easy to use layout. Teachers who are teaching at any grade level can find short, easy to read books that can teach hard to explain literary devices in a single class period. This is great for teaching youngsters, or a great introduction for older students who will be encountering a particular device in a longer book. Picture storybooks are wonderful literature these days and should be encouraged ... Read More:

This book is a compilation of scholarly articles/essays by different authors. As such, it's not very consistent. Some segments were very insightful and interesting to read, while others were confused, off-base, or just plain inaccurate. Several of the chapters I read got basic information from the books wrong, such as one that described Hermione Granger as a "half-blood" (not true!), and one that seemed to completely misunderstand the crucial events at the end of book 3. When an author misunderstands such important basic information, ... Read More:

The title of the book that I read was The Christmas Wreath, by James Hoffman. It was a delightful Christmas picture book that had very prety illusttions. I thought this book was prety good. THis story is aout a polar bear that got a Christmas wreath stuck on his head and called it a necklace. The wreath caught seaweed and other plants and froze under water. THen the bear hung it back up on a door on the door. Then it shined beautifly in the coid night. I thougt this book was a great Cristmas book. the pictures were nice and colorful.
